Just a quick update. Thanks to the folks at the Broadband Reports Security forum, I’ve fixed a minor bug with the Cookies IE2FF script. You can download the new version here: http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/programs.asp?Program=Cookies%20IE2FF

Toolbox Update For Thursday, July 15, 2004

Filed under: Toolbox Programs — jasonlevine @ 4:00 am

Thanks to everyone for responding to my survey. Moving into our new house has delayed me quite a bit, so I’m still going over the results. Hopefully, I’ll be able to make some decisions soon.

Meanwhile, I’ve got a new script. While testing Mozilla FireFox, I decided to write a script to copy my cookie settings (which sites are allowed to save cookies and which aren’t) from Internet Explorer to FireFox. I realized that other people might find this useful, so I figured that I’d release it to the general public. You can download it from here: http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/programs.asp?Program=Cookies%20IE2FF

Toolbox Update For Monday, May 24, 2004

Filed under: General Toolbox Stuff — jasonlevine @ 4:00 am

You may have noticed that I’ve been a bit lax on Jason’s Toolbox. Unfortunately, Jason’s Toolbox is run in my free time and, due to recent developments in my life (the birth of my son, the purchase of my first house), I’ve had much less free time to spare.

Of course, I don’t want to just shut down Jason’s Toolbox and walk away so I’m looking into ways to remove some of the burden of development and support. This may involve some programs/services being discontinued. I’d appreciate it if you could answer the questions in this survey to help decide what goes and what stays.

(Anything that is discontinued will remain on line for archival purposes. I just won’t do any new development work on it and won’t support it anymore.)

You can find the survey at: http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/survey.asp

Thanks in advance.

Toolbox Update For Saturday, February 07, 2004

Filed under: Toolbox Programs, Trust Setter — jasonlevine @ 4:00 am

Just a quick update. I’ve found and fixed some bugs in Trust Setter’s installer and uninstaller (with the help of a bunch of great folks over at PCQandA and Broadband Reports’ Security Forum). If you haven’t had a problem installing or uninstalling Trust Setter, you don’t need to upgrade. Otherwise, go to the Programs page to download the new version.

Hi, Jason. This is Rick (R2 - dslreports, etc.) I don’t know if you have a ‘forum’ any more — I don’t seem to be able to find it quickly on your new web site. No matter.

Just thought I would tell you about a slight glitch in TrustSetter. It involves websites that use a different port address. For example, I was using my lap on a wireless network and I needed to put the ‘access’ website into the Trusted sites zone. Clicking the “Check” icon opens up TrustSetters Add dialog, however the “site” that was added was:

    190.0.11:1111

    But, the actual site was:

    207.190.9.11

The problem is fairly obvious — the trailing port number (1111) was assumed to be part of the ‘dotted decimal’ site address. Therefore the first number (207) was left off!

Likely this is not a frequent issue — or you would have heard of it before — but I thought you might find it interesting.

    Good luck with your family.

    Rick

Excuse my multiple typos! My daughter was yelling at me. I don’t find a way to edit my ‘post’, but the obvious errors are “lap top” and “207.190.0.11″. Sorry…. :-[

    Jason,

Glad to see you are still moving along. I wanted to post a comment directly under the links regarding Trust Setter (and all other programs that use scripting) as I finally found a way to make it work in Vista.

I have been looking for Vista related powertoys, and stumbled across several toys that allowed for elevated access that are currently not usable in Vista - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/technetmag/issues/2007/06/UtilitySpotlight/default.aspx

The script elevation powertoys include one for WSH - the scripting engine in Windows used to run VB Script files, among other. Using this powertoy, I now have a Run As Administrator associated with VBS files - and I was able to successfully install Trust Setter for IE 7 on Vista Ultimate.

I hope that this will generate an increased interest in your products again, as virtually everything you had written and released after WinMag I used at one time or another and always recommended to my friends. Now, even with Vista, I can do the same again.

    Cheers!

Toolbox Update For Thursday, January 29, 2004

Filed under: General Toolbox Stuff, Trust Setter — jasonlevine @ 4:00 am

It has been quite awhile since I’ve posted an update, so there’s a lot to catch up on. First of all, when I last posted my wife and I were expecting our first child. I’m proud to (belatedly) announce that on August 17th, Noah Harrison Levine was born. He came into this world weighing 7lbs 10oz and measuring about 20 inches. Now, at five months old, he’s much heavier and is a very happy baby boy. (Well, except when his teething is bothering him. Or when he’s overtired. Or hungry. ;-) ) Here’s a photo of him. As you might guess, having a baby has left me with very little free time.

The other big news is that Jason’s Toolbox has had a facelift. Along with the new look are some new features, such as an RSS newsfeed for updates. For those of you who don’t know what RSS feeds are, they are a means of subscribing to get content from a website without any worries about spam. The content is downloaded by a program called an Aggregator. Since control of the subscription is entirely in your hands, you will never see any content that you didn’t actually choose to see. You can also choose to stop getting the content at any time. Click on RSS Feed for more information.

There is one last item to report. After quite a lot of work, I’m pleased to introduce Trust Setter 2.0. One of the major changes to Trust Setter is that it is now a HTA application. Just like with HTABackup, Trust Setter can now support advanced functionality by using a HTML-based interface. See the new Trust Setter page (located under Programs) for more information on the changes.
